Sensitive Skin

The condition of your skin says a lot about how you take care of it. Considering the Colorado weather changes and the increased pollution in the Denver Colorado environment, having and maintaining beautiful skin is a real tough task these days. This is especially true if you have sensitive skin.

Sensitive skin is more prone to react to taunting ingredients. It becomes easily irritated and can be a chore to take care of.

If you struggle with sensitive skin, then we urge you to read on. Here are some tips for sensitive skin.

Use mild cleansing agents

Most people put a lot more thought into choosing their moisturizer than they do with their facial cleanser. But did you know that this one product can make or break your skin care routine?

When selecting a cleansing agent, choose gentle products that will dissolve away excess oil and dirt without drying out the skin. Also, choose products that do not contain harsh ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). This ingredient is often added to most soaps and facial cleansers, but it can be irritating to sensitive skin.

Choose cosmetics carefully

Just because you have sensitive skin, it doesn’t mean that you should skip makeup. When choosing makeup for sensitive skin, choose products that do not contain ingredients such as alcohol, fragrance, ang parabens as they can cause an unwanted reaction. Also, know that natural isn’t always better. In fact, essential oils may be to blame for some flare-ups.

Don’t forget to remove your makeup before going to bed. Sleeping with makeup on can lead to clogged pores and sensitivity, and patchy skin.

Do a patch test with new products

People with sensitive skin tends to suffer from allergic reaction or breakout when they use the wrong product. This is the reason why you should be mindful of the products you put on your skin. We highly recommend that you patch test a new product. This will prevent you suffering from a breakout or a rash.

If you have acne-prone skin, apply a tiny amount of product either on the cheek or chin everyday for a week. These two areas are the most prone to blemishes, so you can easily determine if it will make you break out. If you’ll be applying the product to your body, you should patch test on your upper arm, your belly or behind your knees. Pay attention to how your skin reacts. If you experience any reaction, it is best to discontinue use.
